From the Burnley Express dated 12th May 1917:
Clancy - On the 28th April, Pte. John Clancy (12642), aged 32, East Lancashire regiment. Sleep on, dear son, in a foreign grave, Your life for your country you nobly gave, No one stood near you to say good bye, But safe in God’s keeping now you lie. – From mother, sisters and brothers R.I.P.
From the CWGC memorial papers we find that John was the son of the late Peter Clancy and Hannah who lived at 8 Roberts Street.
John is buried in Karasoule Military Cemetery, Greece: Grave Ref; A 137.
