Private Peter Grogan

2439 1/5th East Lancashire Regiment.

Died at Sea, 3rd September 1915, aged 18.

Peter was born in the Dec quarter of 1897, Burnley. The son of  Martin Grogan and Mary Ann Blight (Bligh). In the 1901 census the family lived at 56 Anne St. Burnley, Martin 33 weaver born in Ireland, Mary 35, Maggie 11, Winifred 9, William 7, Pater 3 and Ellen 1 all born in Burnley.

By  the 1911 census Peter’s father Martin had died and his widowed mother Mary (44) was boarding with an Abraham Cryer of 9 Top Hill Passage, Burnley. Peter 13 a miner, Charles 7 and Martin 3. All were living in 3 rooms

Lived at 5 Scar Court.

Peter left his effects to his brother William and 3 sisters, Winifred, Nelly and Margaret.

Peter is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli: Panels 114 to 118.
