From The Express and Advertiser dated 9th January 1915; THE DEATH ROLL. BURNLEY BORDERER KILLED.
Mrs Marsh of 17 Earl Street Burnley received intimation from the war office on Tuesday that her husband Private James Marsh of the Border Regiment, had been killed in action on December 18th. Private Marsh who was 30 years of age, served 3 years with the colours, and was doing 9 years on the reserve. During his time with the regulars he spent 18 months in South Africa after the Boer War. He had been working at Barden Pit, and was well-known and greatly respected in the Burnley Lane district.
Two brothers are with the territorials in Egypt, and another a Sergeant is acting as a drill instructor to the King's Own.

On Tuesday morning Mrs Marsh, who resides with her mother Mrs Brown, at 40 Red Lion Street Burnley, received an official communication notifying her of the death of her husband Private James Marsh who was a member of the Liverpool Border Regiment. Private Marsh who had resided at 17 Earle Street was killed in action on December 18th.
Lived at 17 Earle Street.
James left his effects to his widow Rose Ann.
