The death is officially reported of Pte. Thos. Judge, 31043, Loyal North Lancashire Regt., who fell in action on October 2nd in France. He was 32 years of age, and leaves a widow and one child, who reside at 18 Grey Street, Burnley. Pte. Judge was a native of Padiham, in which town he is well known. He had been a playing member of St. John's Roman Catholic football team, and he also assisted Messrs. Riley's Chemical Works team in the workshops' competition, being formerly employed there. He was connected with St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Ivy Street, Burnley but formerly was identified with the Catholic Community in Padiham.
He joined the colours on April 13th of this year, and after training at Scarborough was drafted out, and had only been at the front four weeks when he fell.
Patrick Judge, brother of the deceased, was recently discharged suffering from gas. The parents of the unfortunate soldier's wife, Mr. & Mrs. Pickles of 11, Cuerdale Street, Harle Syke, have been hard hit in this terrible war, having lost two sons, namely Pte. Charles Pickles, 8th East Lancashire Regt., killed on February 15th, 1917, and Pte. Willie Pickles, 11th East Lancashires, killed on June 30th last year. Another son, Pte. John Pickles is an Army farrier.
