Lance Corporal Philip Burke.
7707 Manchester Regiment.
Died of pneumonia 3rd February 1919 at Primrose Bank Hospital, aged 29.
Transferred to the Labour Corps 614557.
I believe Philip was born in Sculcoates, Nr Hull what was then Yorkshire. The son of Margaret, I cannot find him or his family in the 1891 census. In the 1901 census it states that his mother Margaret was head of the family and married, with Philip aged 9 living at 7 Hodgson Sq., Sykes St Sculcoates, Kingston upon Hull.
The 1911 census still finds them in Hull lodging with an Ellen O’Mally at 47 Dock St, and it states that Margaret is now a widow. No indication of how long she was married or how many children she had.
Philip married Sarah Jane Murray in the Dec. quarter of 1914.
