Private Charles William Crane.

Drowned on the "Royal Edward" 13th August 1915. Aged 23.

Charles was born in Burnley about 1892, the son of John and Margaret Crane. In the 1901 census the family consisted of, John 35 cotton weaver, born in Salford, Lancs, Margaret 30 cotton weaver born in Burnley, Jack 6, James 2 and a boarder called Minnie Lee, all born in Burnley. They lived at 18 Birkwell St., Burnley.

In the 1911 census the family had moved to 23 Thorneybank St., Burnley. John 43, Margaret 39, Charles 18, John 15, James 12, Bernard 10, Francis 5 and Joseph 1. Charles’ parents had been married 19 years and had 6 surviving children.

Charles left his effects to his father John.

Lived at 23 Thornybank Street
