Private Thomas Cunningham.

13625 10th Scottish Rifles.

Missing in Action 25th September 1915, aged 20.

Thomas was born about 1895 in Burnley, the son of James and Emily Cunningham. In the 1901 census the family was living at  4 Union St Burnley. James 28 labourer was born in Liverpool, Emily 28 charwoman was born in Diggle, Yorkshire, Thomas 6 and James 1 both of Burnley.

The 1911 census saw the family at 11 Hubie St, Burnley. James 39, Emily 40, Thomas 17. James 11, Frederick 7 and Emily 3. His parents had been married 19 years and they had had 7 children 3 of whom had died prior to 1911.

 

From the Burnley express dated 6th Nov 1915: NO WORD FOR 6-WEEKS.

No word has been received from Private Thomas Cunningham (13625) of the 10th Battalion Scottish Rifles, and his father, Mr James Cunningham, 11 Hubie Street, Stoneyholme, Burnley, will be glad to receive any information respecting him.  His last letter home was written on September 23rd and he went into action with his Battalion on September 25th. Notice has come from the Hamilton record office stating he was wounded in Action on September 25th. He formerly worked for the Burnley Brick and Lime company and was connected with St James's School.

 

Thomas lived at II Hubie St., Stoneyholme, Burnley.

Thomas is commemorated on the Dud Corner Loos Memorial, France: Panels 57 to 59.
