Missing in Action 28th April 1917.  Aged 28.

John was born in the June quarter of 1889 in Burnley. The son of Patrick McDermott and Sarah Malpas. In the 1891 census the family lived at 6,1/2 Top St Burnley. Patrick 28 cooper born in Stcokport Cheshire, Sarah 24, Catherine 3 and John 2 both born in Burnley.

In the 1901 census the family had moved to 4 Muschamp Yard, Burnley. Patrick now widowed 39, Catherine 13, John 12, William 9 and Patrick’s brother John 30.

By the time of the 1911 census the family had moved to 122 Finsley Gate, Burnley. Patrick 50, Catherine 24, John 22 a window cleaner, and William 20.

Lived at 11 Laithe Street.

John left his effects to his father Patrick.

John is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France: Bay 6.
