Private Daniel Sullivan
35658 11th East Lancashire Regiment.
Died of Wounds 13th September 1917, aged 19.

Daniel was born in the March quarter of 1898 in Burnley. The son of Patrick Sullivan and Mary Morton. In the 1901 census the family were living at 13 Pickup Court, Burnley. Patrick 40 a miner , Mary 36 weaver, John 9 and Daniel 3, they were all born in Burnley.
The 1911 census saw them at 9 Stanley St, Burnley. Patrick 50, Mary 40, Daniel 14 and May 11. His parents had been married 30 Years and they had had 4 children and all were surviving.

The death is reported in a hospital in France of Private Daniel Sullivan (35658) of the East Lancashires, whose parents reside at 14 Berkswell Street off Trafalgar Street Burnley. The deceased soldier, who was only nineteen years of age, died from gas shell poisoning on September 13th. His mother has got two letters containing the news, one from a nursing sister and one from a Roman Catholic chaplain of the forces, who was with him before he died. There is also an official telegram. The nursing sister in the course of her letter says: "he had been very badly gassed, and his condition never improved. He did not suffer a great deal of pain, and his only request was that I would write and tell you about him and to say he was not very ill. The boy did not realise he was dying. I hope it will comfort you to know he was in hospital, and had every care and attention and chance of Recovery. He could not speak much as it hurt him so, it being his lungs and throat that were affected."
The deceased joined the army in January 1915 and went out in November last. He was formerly employed at Spencer's Heald Manufacturers Stanley Street and was connected with St Mary's Roman Catholic Church. There are two brothers both married, one serving in the Australians and one in the East Surrey's.
Lived at 14 Berkswell Street. Son of Patrick and Mary Sullivan, of 6, Kay St., Burnley.
Daniel left his effects to his father Patrick.
Daniel was buried in Aubigny Communal Cemetery Ext., France: Grave Ref: II.F.5.
