Do You Need to Apply For A DBS Certificate? Or Does Your Existing DBS Certificate Need Renewing?

In order to help safeguard children and vulnerable adults, all parish volunteers working with them need to have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check completed. These checks need to take place once every three years. Volunteers who need a DBS check for their role but who have not yet applied please see the section headed 'For New Applicants' below.

If you are a volunteer whose DBS Certificate has expired, the Diocese of Salford’s Safeguarding Team will be contacting you by email within the next couple of weeks to send you an individual link where you can complete your renewal form online. It’s a lot simpler and quicker than the old paper forms. However, if you do not have a computer or you need any assistance with anything then help will be available.

A DBS ‘Clinic’ will be held at St Mary’s Parish Rooms on Saturday, 21st October between 11:00am and 2:00pm and everybody who needs a DBS Certificate will be invited to drop in, if they can, with the necessary ID documents, which will be copied and the originals returned to you. Plenty of assistance will be available there too. If you can't call in on Oct 21st don't worry, other arrangements will be made.

What You'll Need to Know:

Everybody who has registered as a volunteer and received a DBS Certificate in the past should be on the Salford Safeguarding database. If you’ve already had a DBS Certificate you can skip the section below and go straight to the one after: please click here

For New Applicants:

If you haven’t registered as a volunteer with Salford Diocese before and have never had a DBS with the diocese then you will have to fill in a Volunteer Registration form and provide two references. You can download the forms below and print them off. Give two referees a reference form each then collect the forms from them when completed.

Then bring the completed Volunteer Registration form and references to the DBS Clinic at St Mary's Parish Rooms on Saturday, 21st October between 11am and 2pm, together with the completed ID Verification form plus your ID documents (see below). If you can't make it to the Clinic see "What If I Can't get To The Clinic?" below. But complete the section for all applicants immediately below first. 

 

All Applicants (new and renewal):

On Page One please fill in your name, Role/Position, the church you normally attend or at which you volunteer, your email address, Date of Birth, your home address and the names of the documents you are providing for verification.

Please click here for a list of possible documents you can provide, together with guidance notes.

On Page Two of the DBS 3C form, fill in the bottom part; name, signature and date.

Then please bring the completed form plus ID documants to the DBS Clinic on Saturday 21st October.

What If I Can't get To The Clinic?

If necessary you could seek out your local Parish Safeguarding Representative after Mass and hand the documents to her. She would then take copies of your ID documents and give you back the originals. Your Safegaurding Representatives are listed below.

Please note that a fourth Parish Safeguarding Representative has been recruited and is in process of being inducted and trained. Her remit will be to provide cover for periods of absence on holiday or sickness, plus to help out parish-wide in particularly busy times. We’ll announce further details in due course.
